stemming from research on sunflowers and light, this mechanism engages two users in a dialogue to form a simultaneously additive and subtractive drawing.
the machine is a table that allows for a previously charcoaled sheet of mylar to run through it while the two users act ono the paper. Inside the machine lie two instruments that have erasing and drawing components attached. each user is able to control the speed of the tool with one hand, and the pressure with which it acts in their other hand. this creates a drawing with a consistent grey background and unique white and black lines throughout.
the lines drawn by the instrument echoes the movement of the sunflower, which follows the sun westward during the day, and resets in the east at night.
